The optional proficiency test is based on the syllabus of Class IX and Class X and consists of concept application questions. Beginning after the completion of final exams, the optional proficiency test serves as a centralized benchmark of subject understanding.
Through it, students are able to gauge their knowledge of a subject in comparison with students of other schools. The results also serve as feedback to schools regarding their teaching styles. Students who appear for the test receive certificates and percentile ranks from CBSE.
"We changed the dates as we wanted to keep the date-sheet in continuation," said R J Khanderao, regional officer, CBSE.
Rakesh Sachdeva, a CBSE counsellor, said, "This test helps students decide which field they want to choose and tells them where they stand. The test is based on Class IX and Class X syllabus and focuses on skills, abilities and understanding-based questions."
She added, "The date-sheet is now set according to convenience, as it doesn't have any holidays in between."
